Organ Recital at the Votive Church (Votivkirche)
The Organ Recital will present a program of romantic and post-romantic pieces of Spanish, Ecuadorian, German and French composers. It will be given by Angel Justo Estebaranz (born and living in Seville/Spain), a renowned organist and professor at the University of Seville in Spain.
The Votive Church (Votivkirche) is one of the most important neo-Gothic churches of the world. It was erected after the unsuccessful assassination attempt on the young emperor Franz Josef I. His brother, the Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian, who later became Emperor of Mexico, called all peoples of the Austrian Monarchy for donations for the construction of this new church which was to become a symbol of the multinational nature of the Danube Monarchy.
Today, the parish of the Votive Church is a cosmopolitan house of prayer. Due to the fact that a side altar is dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe it is also of special importance for the Latin-American community in Vienna (see also: Vienna International Religious Center, VIRC: www.virc.at/).
Location: Votive Church, Rooseveltplatz 8, 1090 Wien
Fee: free entrance (donations for the conservation of the church welcome!)
