2921 - Deduction and evolution. Early archaeological patterns and processes in South America

An analysis of the interplay between evolutionary analysis and deductive approaches in archaeological research is presented. The role of deduction in identifying relevant archaeological patterns is examined. Examples from the late Pleistocene archaeology of southern South America, particularly Puna, Pampa, Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego- are considered. These applications are basically related with models of human exploration and colonization of new lands.

Keywords: Evolution, deduction, exploration, colonization.
